The song ends on an extremely eerie note, with a faint piano fading slowly in the background Absolutely nothing can get more epic or vocally beautiful than that.

Shortly after, Brent again beautifully howls out “Spiraling up through a crack in the skye/ Leaving material world behind/ seeing your face in constellations/ the martyr is ending his life for mine”.
The 6:55 mark creates something so epic, so heroic, that the listener is incapable of preventing their arms to be thrown up in the air as though they are crying out to the sky. The song makes you feel as though you’re flying through space, continuously building up to the most galactic part. It begins with an extremely eerie synthesizer which grasps the feeling of the bitter cold winters of imperial Russia.
This song is the pure, much like the title begs, definition of all that is epic and melodic. With it’s obscure timing and sincere melody, this song is sure to awaken some sort of unusual emotion lurking inside your soul.Īll previous songs, despite their stunning attributes, build up to the fourth and second longest (marking at 10:54) track: ‘The Czar‘. One could listen to this song and feel the stinging winter wind cutting up your face while soft pellets of snow blur your eyesight. ‘Quintessence’ is an extraordinary follow up that creates it’s own atmosphere: winter. Brent’s voices howls at the top of his lungs “No escape/ Binding spirits/ No escape/ Trapped in time space”. But the song leads the military march into the best part: the chorus. Keeping a constant, almost even trash like beat, this song commands your attention. This is the head banging anthem of the album. The second track ‘Divinations’ is a heart pounding march in which the instruments grasp the more than real image of boots marching on a marble floor.

Representing desertion and dissolution, this song begs for mercy, while receiving full attention from the listener. Brent (Hinds, Vocals/Guitar) cries the chorus “Fallen from grace cause I been away too long/ Leaving you behind with my lonesome song/ Now I'm lost in oblivion”. The chorus echoes a sorrowful song, clearly describing an individual in distress. The slow drum beat while the main guitar riff is speed picking creates a wonderful contrast of slow and fast light and dark good and evil. The album opens up with ‘Oblivion’, a song that is overwhelmed with heart wrenching melancholy. Musically and lyrically it may be one of the best albums to have ever been released. Saying that the beauty it produces is majestic is an understatement. Their new album ‘Crack the Skye’, released by Reprise Records on March 24th, 2009, is beyond simple melody accompanying the loudness of heavy metal. In fact, every album was better than the last. Not a single one of their albums have been a disappointment to the masses.
